Wealdstone 2-2 Braintree Town

A goal nine minutes from time from Chris Walton gave Stones a well deserved point on Tuesday night against a good and unbeaten Braintree side.

Wealdstone might have taken an 11th minute lead via Braintree’s defender Knight as his back pass nearly beat his own ‘keeper. A quick break by Gedney ended with Noel Imber saving well. Paul Benning came close from a Steve Bircham corner.

In the 23rd minute the goal of the season so far arrived when Milton lost possession and Brian Jones won a 50-50 challenge with Gunn, then outpaced two defenders and cleverly chipped the ‘keeper as the ball entered the top far corner for a wonderful goal.

Benning again came close as his header went along the goal line but there was no one to touch it home.
In the first minute after the break Chris Walton’s good pass found David Kellman but his effort was blocked by Cherry.

But the visitors equalised on the hour when Noel Imber called but failed to gather and the ball hit Fergus Moore into the path of Milton who shot past the home keeper.

Soon after, Noel Imber made amends with two excellent saves from Smith and Bailey. Stones fell behind in the 79th minute when Fergus Moore was alleged to have fouled Smith in the penalty area and Milton scored his second goal of the evening from the resulting kick.

Then, with nine minutes remaining, a throw in from Dominic Sterling found David Kellman who did well to hold off his defender to lay off a good ball to Chris Walton whose delightful and accurate show beat Cherry.

In the dying seconds Brain Jones nearly got maximum points for his side when he saw his powerful shot go inches wide.

Bartlett was much happier with this performance after Saturday’s display.

This is the first game that Braintree have dropped points in the league so far.
