Despite some excellent attacking play at times from Wealdstone on Tuesday evening they couldn’t quite make the break through and the score line was a repeat of the 0-0 shut out at Billericay on the opening day of the season last August.

However despite only gaining a point, Stones still remain in sixth position in the Ryman Premier table, two points away from Hastings United where Wealdstone are the visitors this Saturday for what will be another massive game in the quest for a play off spot. And with some daylight opening up at the very top of the league after Dartford lost again, some teams will fancy their chances of usurping them – something that seemed virtually impossible only a few weeks ago.

But due to Stones crazy fixture congestion they still have the small matter of a League Cup semi-final against Croydon Athletic sandwiched in between the trip to the South Coast. Thursday night (18th March) at the St George’s Stadium will surely see Wealdstone’s Management having to consider a much changed line-up, with the risk of injury and bookings being ever present.

Stones again started brightly against Billericay, with Matt McClure going close from a header after Lee Chappell had been fouled. Then Callum Martin who put in a tremendously hard working shift also headed just past the upright.

The visitors hit back and only a last ditch block from Mark E’Beyer prevented a great chance on goal. And the half ended with Sean Thomas making a great save.

Stones defended well and controlled most of the possession in the second period but should have made it count. Kieron Forbes put Danny Spendlove through but he blazed over with the goal in his sights. Chris O’Leary also went close on two occasions as the home side piled on the pressure late in the match and a great interchange between Spendlove and Martin should have beaten Paul Nicholls but the shot was again blocked.

But Ricay held out, with their keeper, Nicholls, keeping his side in the match with some good saves throughout.
