Miller is a good little ‘un

Gordon Bartlettt turned to a good little ‘un rather than a big ‘un when  he signed Ricky Miller this week. The Stones boss snapped up Miller from Aylesbury United, having turned  down the chance to sign other target-man type players to play up  alongside Richard Jolly. And Stones fans will get an immediate chance to weigh up Bartlett’s  judgement with Miller being thrown straight into the squad for  Saturday’s trip to high-flying Lewes.

Bartlett on Ricky Miller: “He is in the Jolls mould rather than a big guy, but we have had a look  at a couple of big ones and decided not to go with them. If the big guys aren’t there you take what you feel is another option  and that is what we have chosen to do. Ricky is pacey, fiery and scores goals – hopefully he can be the  catalyst to turn things round for us.”

It is vital for Stones that the 22-year-old fires quickly as Bartlett’s  attacking options are restricted at present with Peter Dean (ribs)  injured and Scott Fitzgerald yet to find the net in his dual  registration period with Hemel Hempstead.

Bartlett on attacking options: “Fitzy hasn’t been playing regularly at Hemel and has been on the bench lately. He needs to get on the score-sheet and get nice and sharp, but the manager Colin Payne has left so I’m not sure.”

Miller’s arrival sees him link up again with new Stones captain Wes  Parker – the two were team-mates in their days at Boston However, whether the duo will face Lewes depends on Parker shrugging  off the niggling knee problem which has ruled him out of the last two  games. Bartlett added:

Bartlett on Wes Parker’s injury: “Wes may have something floating in his knee because it  keeps locking on him.  Where that situation stands now. It does feel better tonight and we will just have to see how it is  before the weekend.”
