Wealdstone 2 – 0 AFC Hayes
2 - 0
Wealdstone reached their second semi final in a week on Tuesday night as they overcame AFC Hayes in the Middlesex Senior Cup at The Vale. Goals from Peter Dean and Scott Fitzgerald saw the Stones safely through to the last four where they will play North Greenford United. There was also valuable game time for recent signing Tom Pett, as well as the returning Nikki Ahamed with both players looking to push for a first team place in the coming weeks.
After a tentative opening from both sides, Peter Dean had a great chance to open the scoring for the home side on 25 minutes when Wes Parker released him with a great forward ball. Dean took the ball down well inside the box, however Hayes ‘keeper Simon Grant did well to block his effort.
Dean did fare better on the half hour mark though when he gave his side the lead. Scott Fitzgerald did well to intercept an under hit backpass by Tom Duffy before squaring the ball to Dean who had the simple task of rolling into an empty net.
Stones began the second half on top, with Grant doing well to deny Dean twice as Stones looked for a second.
The returning Ahamed then came close; showing great skill to turn inside the box before a Hayes defender managed to get a block in on the winger’s shot.
The second goal arrived on 70 minutes, Fitzgerald again intercepting after a mix up between Grant and Duffy before slamming the ball in from a very acute angle for a great finish.
Matt Woods came close to setting up a grandstand finish with 15 minutes left to play, however the strikers effort was well saved by North who had enjoyed a relatively comfortable night.
