Player News – ‘In’ and ‘Out’ at The Vale
Manager Bobby Wilkinson has been busy re-shaping his squad for the coming 2018/19 Vanarama National League South campaign with ‘nine’ players arriving and ‘thirteen’ departing The Vale.
The New Boys:
Yado hit social media ‘Mambo No 5’ headlines last year with his previous club, National League side Ebbsfleet United and the much publicised number 5 shirt was eventually auctioned off for the Prostate Cancer Charity with the story having gone viral. The towering defender was forced to retire as a full-time professional player with Ebbsfleet following a knee injury in January 2017, however Mambo has now been given the all clear to play part-time football with the Stones.
The experienced Mambo, 26, started his career with Charlton Athletic’s Youth Academy and then went out on a number of loans that have also included AFC Wimbledon in League Two and Shrewsbury Town in League One.
Yado said: “ I am very glad to be here at Wealdstone, when I spoke to Bobby (Wilkinson) I jumped at the chance to get back to playing football again. I have spoken to two surgeons regarding the injury that stopped me playing a year ago but I have worked hard to fight back to a good level of fitness and the gaffer understands the situation. I just want to smell the grass again and help Wealdstone to achieve their ambitions next season”
Matt Lench
Lench is an attacking central midfield player and featured very strongly for newly promoted NLS rivals Slough Town last campaign.
The 25 year old also has an eye for goal and netted 15 times for the Rebels last season and previously scored 16 for Hitchin Town before signing for Slough in June 2017.
Matt said: “ It was an honour to get the call from Wealdstone, a big club with a fan base to match . I like Bobby’s plans and it’s all very exciting”
Tom Gardiner
Hertfordshire based Tom, 23, is a tall, combative, imposing centre half who featured for St Albans City last term and made his mark at NLS rivals Dartford.
He has previously had spells at Hibernian and Cambridge City.
Wadah Ahmidi
Wadah is an ex Maidenhead Town midfield enforcer who was an integral part of Staines Town’s side last campaign. Another young player with bags of talent.
Sam Hatton
Versatile Sam,30, is a very experienced midfield/right back and another player that featured with Staines Town last season.
A former full time professional he lists Grimsby Town, Aldershot and AFC Wimbledon amongst his previous clubs.
Stefan Brown
Former Hungerford Town front man. History maker with his hat trick in the FA Cup, Stefan is a strong and athletic striker that will add a different dimension to Stones forward play
James Clark
James won two promotions with Hungerford Town in the previous 4 seasons. Noted for his tremendous work rate in the midfield and a born winner.
Freddie Grant
21 year old Freddie is a talented left back who has previously played for Oxford United. Most recently Grant featured for Oxford City and has over 80 starts to his name in National League South Football.
Montel Agyemang
A former Leyton Orient player, Montel is a young, tricky exciting winger who has created a lot of interest with his performances over the past year.
Played for East Thurrock United last season
