Arriving at Rugby on the way back from Kev Bright’s funeral in Sunderland, there was a mood of expectancy i suppose, the hope that Stones would carry the performance from the end of Saturday’s match into this fixture.

What actually happened was less enthralling as the side struggled to make any impression on their quick opponents, and gifted two goals through error and accident. The first came on 9 minutes when the back line failed to react as Stone broke free – Carroll saving one on one but conceding a corner, and the defence failed to pick up Gordon who headed home unmarked at the back post.

The second goal on 61 was again from a corner as a clearance from the front post struck another defender and bounced into the path of Kolodynski who shot home from 14 yards.

Substitutions made a difference to Wealdstone as the impressive Mackie broke down the right flank regularly in the last 20 minutes but misfortune, a few saves and a distinct lack of luck stopped Stones from getting back into the match.

Wealdstone: Lee Carroll, Josias Carbon, Fergus Moore s32 Josh Cooper, Lee Chappell, Carl Martin, Ben Martin, Dean Clark, Chris O’Leary, Matt Gooderick s62 Hector Mackie, John Henry-Hayden, John Christian s62 Stuart Goodall, Subs not used: Neil McDonald, Ernest Simon.
