Wealdstone 0 – 2 Hemel Hempstead Town
0 - 2
There’s actually very little to say as Stones season once again bounds from peak to trough, losing to promotion rivals Hemel by 2 penalties – one twice taken after it was saved…..
Stones had 70% of the possession but lacked the instinct or initiative to force clear cut chances, while Hemel forced their way forward no kore than four or five times during the whole match but scored from the two opportunities they were given.
All in all it was a pretty poor match from two sides hopeful of winning a place in the Premier Division, and both would have to improve to hold their own at the higher level on this form.
Stones have certainly lost the initiative in winning the final promotion place and may be lucky now even to qualify for the play-offs after such a roller coaster season, but there may still be another twist or two with a few matches to be played this week – a win at East Thurrock next Saturday could still seal promotion, an entry to the play-offs or even 9th or 10th, but one thing is certain. Stones must win to keep the hopes alive…
