Goals from Alex Dyer and Giovanni McGregor were enough for Wealdstone to see off League Two side Milton Keynes Dons in a 2-1 win at Grosvenor Vale.

In a game that saw plenty of chances for both sides it was Wealdstone who went ahead on 26 minutes when Micah Obiero knocked Charles Clayden’s cross back across goal to Dyer who smashed home from 12 yards.

The Stones enjoyed the majority of possession, with the ball staying in play for large periods of the match. However the visitors grabbed a well-worked equaliser on 82 minutes.

Darragh Burns chipped the ball over the Wealdstone back line for Max Dean to score an excellent volley over his shoulder and on the turn that left the Stones trialist in goal with no chance.

But the hosts sealed the victory moments later when Olufela Olomola teed up McGregor who finished with an effort similar to Dyer’s opener.

In a frantic opening 20 minutes both sides went close to opening, first Wealdstone with Ashley Charles and Obiero and MK Dons with Jonathan Leko and then Mo Eisa who hit the post when played in on goal.

Max Kretzschmar provided heroics in his own box, when he cleared Jack Tucker’s header off the line on 22 minutes.

The Stones then opened the scoring four minutes later when Marcus Harness flapped Clayden’s cross to Obiero at the far post, he showed the composure to square to Dyer by the penalty spot who smashed it in.

Eight changes were made at half time, with five trialists now on the pitch for the hosts and one of those almost doubled Wealdstone’s tally but his effort just went over.

Changes aplenty came on 66 minutes with the Dons making ten subs and the Stones replacing the three players that had started the match, which allowed academy graduates Elijah Hearn and Declan Phillips some minutes in the first team.

Despite the majority of possession the visitors pegged the Stones back when Dean produced a terrific volley into the net after Burns had chipped the ball in over the Wealdstone defence and the striker’s shoulder.

On 84 minutes the visitors almost snatched a win when Zak Jules hit the side netting from close range after getting onto the end of a Matt Smith cross.

From this, the Stones went up the other end and grabbed the win. Olomola collected a deep cross from a trialist before squaring to McGregor on the edge of the box and like Dyer in the first half, the midfielder made no mistake.

The Stones now head to National League South side Farnborough at 3pm on Saturday for our next pre-season friendly, hoping to keep the winning run going.
