AFC Fylde were forced to settle for a point in their opening-day clash with Wealdstone after being held to a 2-2 draw.

An Adam Lewis rocket put the Coasters ahead before a late Jack Morris finish looked to have won it for Craig Mahon’s side.

But Wealdstone fought from behind twice in PR4 to secure a hard-fought point in an entertaining clash on matchday one.

It was almost a disaster start for the Coasters as Wealdstone’s Norris hit a sweetly struck half-volley which forced an unbelievable stop out of Zac Jones within the opening 15 seconds.

But Fylde settled into the contest and dominated large parts of the first half, with the first goal proving elusive throughout the opening ’45.

Chris Merrie arguably should’ve opened the scoring within ten minutes after linking up nicely with Cedric Main, but his effort was well kept out by ‘keeper Baptiste.

Adam Lewis hit an effort from distance which again forced a save before Danny Ormerod had an effort clawed off the line by the Stones Shot stopper.

With just over an hour gone, there was a Goal of the Season contender as Adam Lewis hit an absolutely rocket from all of 30 yards and picked out the top corner with a brilliant strike.

After Norris’ first header flew just wide, his second effort finally beat Jones as the visitors levelled proceedings.

With six minutes to go, substitute Jack Morris looked like he’d found the winner as he took advantage of a loose back pass and rounded Baptiste to slot into an empty net. But the visitors again pegged the Coasters back as a tap-in at the back post meant Fylde would be made to settle for a point.

After a solid start on home soil, the Coasters will face their first away trip next Saturday when they face Tamworth.
