The 9-man Stones lose their second game in a row after a ruthless Yeovil Town won 6-0 at the Vale.

There were two changes from last weekend’s defeat at Barrow, with Milton Oni replacing Dylan Kadji, who was suspended after picking up a red card in that game. Daniel Chesters also came in to replace Joe Newton in defence.

The Stones had a strong start to the game, with their first chance coming in just the third minute. A corner from the right-hand side was floated in towards the penalty spot but McAvoy’s header bounced over the bar.

Just three minutes later the Stones had another opportunity to take the lead. Ronan Maher played a through ball to put Fejiri Okenabirhie through on goal, but he couldn’t finish past the onrushing Yeovil goalkeeper.

The visitors were quiet until the 16th minute, when they had an appeal for a penalty. Ryan Jones beat his man on the right wing and drove into the box before being brought down by Olufela Olomola. The referee wasn’t convinced and waved play on.

The game then turned on its head in the 25th minute, when the Stones were reduced to 10 men for the fourth time this season. A long ball in behind put Archie Davies through on goal, who was met and taken out by Stones goalkeeper Dante Baptiste 35 yards away from his goal. With the red card forcing an early substitute, Endurance Johnson came on for his first league game for Wealdstone.

The Glovers then took the lead eight minutes after the sending off through James Daly. Archie Davies cut the ball back from the right side of the box for Brett McGavin, whose deflected shot fell into the path of Daly. He calmly fired the ball into the bottom left corner and put the visitors into the lead in front of the travelling supporters.

The visitors started to get a grip on the game and dominate the possession with the man advantage. In the 39th minute, they had a chance to double the lead when Jordan Norville-Williams’ cross was met by Slavi Spasov, whose near post shot was tipped round the post by Johnson.

The Stones had a couple of half chances before the half-time whistle. Luke Norris had an effort from distance deflect just wide before a corner produced a headed opportunity, which was the last action of the first half.

HALF TIME- WEALDSTONE 0-1 YEOVIL TOWN

Wealdstone struggled to get into the game at all in the second half, with the visitors putting their man advantage to good use and dominating the ball. Brett McGavin started to stamp his authority on the game, playing a couple of great passes to his wingers to create some good opportunities for the Glovers.

They eventually broke the Stones defence down and doubled their lead in the 63rd minute, when another troubling long ball in behind found Johl Powell through on goal. He did well to keep the ball under pressure and slide the ball into the bottom left corner.

From then on, the Stones capitulated and the visitors ran riot. They added a third goal in the 67thminute when the ball fell to McGavin on the edge of the box and he fired it into the bottom right corner for his first goal of the game. He got his second just three minutes later, when Johnson played a loose pass under pressure straight into his path, and he carried it into the box before sliding it past the young goalkeeper into the bottom right corner.

The Stones had their only opportunity of the half in the 73rd minute, when a corner from the left-hand side was floated to the back post and met the head of McAvoy, who missed the target with his header.

10 minutes later, the Glovers had their fifth and McGavin had his hat trick. He had the ball 30 yards out and couldn’t find an option, so decided to let fly from distance and found the bottom right corner. They added their sixth in the 90th minute after their press forced Johnson into another loose clearance. This time it fell to Powell, who slotted it into the bottom right corner to get his second of the game.

Stoppage time wasn’t short of drama either, with the Stones picking up yet another red card, putting them down to nine men. Stephen Walker was played in behind and squared it to Powell who was up with him, but he was taken out from behind by Aiden Francis-Clarke, who conceded a penalty and was sent off.

Powell had the opportunity to score a hat trick of his own, but was denied from the spot by Johnson, who got down well to meet the shot at the bottom right corner. The referee then blew the whistle for full time, putting the Stones out of their misery.

Yeovil Town produced another emphatic away performance as the Glovers hit six for the second consecutive National League match, beating Wealdstone 6-0 at Grosvenor Vale.

james Daly opened the scoring before Johl Powell struck twice and captain Brett McGavin completed a sensational 16 minute hat trick. Powell added a sixth in stoppage time as Yeovil continued their impressive run of form.

Billy Rowley made one change to the squad following last weekend’s 6-0 victory over Boston United, with Zain Westbrooke missing out through a knock. Owen Dean joined the squad for the first time since signing from Farnham and made his debut in the second half.

The Glovers were called into action early on when Jos Barker produced an excellent one on one save to deny Okenabirhie in the sixth minute.

Yeovil looked dangerous going forward themselves, with Ryan Jones beating his man down the right in the 16th minute before driving into the area and going to ground under a challenge. The Glovers appealed for a penalty, but the referee waved play on.

The hosts were reduced to ten men in the 25th minute when goalkeeper Dante Baptiste was shown a red card. Brett McGavin played a delightful ball through to Archie Davies, but the onrushing goalkeeper collided with the Yeovil number 12. Olufela Olomola was sacrificed as substitute goalkeeper Endurance Johnson entered the action.

McGavin stepped up to take the resulting free kick four minutes later, but his effort struck the wall before the ball looped into the air and dropped for Powell on the left. The forward attempted a volley but sent it over the crossbar.

The breakthrough arrived in the 34th minute. Davies delivered a cross into the area which found McGavin, whose strike was blocked. The ball fell kindly to Daly, who drilled a low effort beyond Johnson to give the Glovers the lead.

Yeovil continued to press for a second, with Spasov seeing a close range effort saved well by Johnson in the 39th minute.

Five minutes of added time were indicated at the end of the first half, with play halted for an extended period as Jones received treatment for an apparent head injury. The winger returned to his feet with his head bandaged before Jordan Norville-Williams was booked in stoppage time for a challenge on Norris.

The Glovers headed into the break with a narrow advantage, knowing there was more to come after a positive first half.

Half-Time: Wealdstone 0-1 Yeovil Town

Yeovil started the second half on the front foot, with Jones trying his luck from distance in the 52nd minute. His fizzing effort flew narrowly wide of the post.

The winger went close again seven minutes later after bringing down a long pass well and cutting past Kanu, but Johnson got behind his low strike to make the save.

The second goal finally arrived in the 63rd minute, and it was Powell who found the net once again. Ben Radcliffe produced a brilliant pass through to the forward, who still had plenty to do before shrugging off a challenge and calmly slotting the ball between Johnson’s legs.

Rowley made a triple change a minute later, with Mason Obeng, Owen Dean and Stephen Walker introduced for Daly, Jones and Spasov. It was a memorable moment for Dean, who made his first appearance for the club following his arrival from Farnham.

The changes made an immediate impact. In the 68th minute, Walker held off his marker on the edge of the area before guiding a composed finish into the bottom right corner to make it three.

Just two minutes later, McGavin added a fourth. A pass from Johnson fell into the captain’s path, allowing him to drive into the area and roll the ball into the net as Yeovil punished another Wealdstone error.

Rowley made two further changes in the 71st minute, with Loick Ayina and Joe Gubbins replacing Muller and Norville-Williams as the Glovers looked to see out a commanding lead.

McGavin was not finished, however. Six minutes from the end of normal time, the captain completed his hat trick in spectacular fashion, unleashing an effort from around 30 yards which dipped into the bottom right corner. It was a superb finish and capped a remarkable 16 minute spell for the Yeovil skipper.

Powell then added his second of the afternoon in the first minute of stoppage time. Dean pressed brilliantly to force Johnson into a mistake, with the goalkeeper’s pass finding Powell, who drove into the area and finished confidently to make it six.

There was still time for further drama as the Glovers were awarded a penalty in the 92nd minute, with Francis-Clarke sent off for the hosts. Powell stepped up to complete his hat trick, but Johnson saved his effort to keep the score at 6-0.

Yeovil saw out the remaining moments to secure another emphatic victory on the road, scoring six goals for the second consecutive National League fixture and keeping a clean sheet in the process.
